Why bridal for Equestrians?
I feel as though if we had been in a room when we debuted the design for our newest product offering that there would have been an audible gasp. Maybe partially because the design of our first release is beautiful (it is-embroidered running horses drawn by myself with California poppies and wild flowers added by a talented graphic designer) but also partially because WHY? As a brand started from functionality and fueled by the pursuit of patents and innovation why in the world would we deviate course to offer bridal?!
Here me out-there are similar veins that run through bridal that run through all of our ideas: uniqueness. Creating options for Equestrians that aren't currently available. To buck many trends, to stand out and let our horse person flag fly in a way that other brands do not offer. If we weren’t true to ourselves, and allowed our hearts to occasionally take the lead for what directions we go next, then we wouldn’t be May Babes. Yes, we still have some really cool upcoming products in the pipeline that push the innovation and functionality envelope, yes we are still dedicated to our goal of no 100% polyester or nylon shirts in 2025. And finally yes, we still love creating apparel.
That being said, the decision to pursue bridal was an easy one. I had the idea one day and we were off to the races the next. It was something that part of me thought couldn’t be done anyway, but I had some R&D money for such a project saved up. WHY NOT bridal for Equestrians? WHY NOT have something beautiful for brides to have one their very special day that shares an aspect of their lives that is by far one of the most important? We eat sleep and breathe our horses and the equestrian lifestyle….why in the world would we not want to have it tied to our wedding day? Regardless of whether you believe wedding days are a pivotal moment in a person’s life, it is undeniable that there should and is an importance placed on making the day unique for the couple. Just as you might have red velvet cake on your wedding day because it reminds you of your grandmother, the same goes for a horse or horseshoes on your veil or hair piece. You are tethered to those things that made you who you are, and this day is the day to show others the ones that are positive, meaningful and worthy of sharing.
However, having your horse at your wedding isn’t always feasible. From the venue being horse friendly or even having insurance that covers the horse being involved, it is likely that if you aren’t being wed on property you or family own, that your personal horses cannot be involved. This is crushing to many of us, who consider our horses as close as family and carriers of our deepest wishes. And yet we cannot share the day with them and there isn’t many products out there that even divulge just how profoundly important horses are to us.
Our veils and accessories aren't for everyone, not even for every horse person. They are for those that want to showcase that aspect of themselves to everyone at their wedding. They are for those who are in some ways, so entrenched in horses that they couldn’t imagine a day like this without them.
To say we love this newest offering would be an understatement. We are delighted to release them to you this this winter and make more equestrian memories with you.
